{{• The ProficiencyI'm searching for the the map of the future in the center of the intersectionSpecial Ability: Coloring
- Explanation & Limits of Gift:
Isabella, as a light mage, has been gifted with the ability to control color, as color is created from a reflection of light in the eye and off certain objects. It’s fairly simple to understand in that she merely bends the light around the object she wants to alter by touching it. A glimmer follows, and the color of the object, whether in shadow or direct light changes. It is a permanent change until either a) the object is placed in a room with absolutely no light whatsoever, then removed {which, in effect, erases the light’s bending from the lack of light to bend}, b) the target wishes the changed color to be removed, or c) a full cycle of twenty-four hours passes. This causes for continual renewal of the coloring if applied to one’s hair, however. The effect of coloring may be applied to such objects as walls, flowers, animals {fur}, clothes, water, rock, hair, skin, and even eyes, but not the sky, stars, sun, or moon. As previously stated, she, or Teishoku, must be touching the object intended to be colored, and this technique can cause no pain; it’s simply for fun and artistic purposes.
Weapon: Teishoku
Given to her by her sensei, her godfather, actually, Teishoku is a enchanted paintbrush that both functions as a tool of art, and a “wand” of sorts for her magic to be channeled when in battle. The paint for Teishoku is nonexistent, contained only in the magic of the brush itself; Isabella need only think of the color, and it shall come out the brush. Onto her canvass, whatever it may be. However, being an enchanted paintbrush, Teishoku can paint on any surface, not only canvas, even that which does not exist {i.e. the air, sky, etc.}. By thinking the color, and swiping Teishoku in light, delicate strokes, as if she were painting on a canvas, anything, even the air itself will become her canvas. The things she paints will become living creatures or working things, though there are many limits to her painting skills, being that she is still not as strong or experienced as she’d like. The first limit is that she cannot create elements, at least, none that will do damage. Wind, fire, water, and the like are beyond her reach in the form of their pure elemental form {i.e. she cannot “paint” a breath of wind, a flash of light, a fire, etc.}. The second limit is that she cannot create food or drink that will sate any hunger or thirst. The third is that her paintings, while moving and able to cause damage, are not life, and have no warmth or anything similar. She can create creatures with the appearance of life, walls, clouds, flowers, trees, buildings, etc. However, her paintings, as her coloring techniques, only last until sunset; after that they are gone. Still, Teishoku’s powers are great when amplified with her magic. Were she not to have Teishoku, she could create nothing like this {i.e. though this may seem like a special ability of hers, it is a special ability applied to Teishoku alone that others may use, though only in a playful way {{i.e. painting a “living” flower but not a monster that could attack and harm}}}.
{{• The PresenceI believed in dreams always coming true on the other side of the sky!Physical Looks: Isabella is a very petite young girl, only about 5’2” tall, with a slender and delicate build, like that of a gymnast or dancer. Her skin is perfect in complexion and color, not too pale and not too pink, a perfect porcelain cream, flawless and soft, with pale pink cheeks and pretty, rose-petal lips. Though her appearance constantly changes by color, for the time being, as she arrives at Hokkaido Academy, she has eyes the color of soft, smooth sapphires—a calming blue. Her hair is long, reaching to the small of her back, and the same color as her eyes for the time being, and always decorated with a ribbon of some sort, either braided through her hair or tied in a bow when she is not wearing her beret. Though she bears no out of the ordinary birthmarks or any tattoos, she does have pierced ears, but only one hole on each ear that she rarely uses for anything other than special earrings on special occasions. She prefers necklaces and bracelets to earrings. As for her regular manner of clothing, always one for flair, Isabella loves elegant and old-fashioned clothes, usually in beautiful neutral or pastel colors like white, pale blue, yellow, or green. She will always wear her artists beret, a last gift from her godfather Braeden before she and her brother had traveled here to Hokkaido Academy, and if not, then she will have a ribbon tied into her hair in some way. She rarely wears anything save for dresses or a loose, paint covered artist’s smock over tights, but for her still childish looking face looks adorable in anything she wears. She looks to be about twelve or thirteen at most times, but in the right clothes and lighting, she is able to pull off her true age. Her voice is warm and loving, no matter who she’s talking to or what she’s talking about, and her laugh sounds like tiny bells, a lovely, angelic sound.
{{• The PersonaWhat is there beyond the night? There are times filled with anxietyGeneral Attitude/Personality: Isabella is generally a bright and cheerful girl, smiling and singing to herself for no apparent reason as she goes about life. She has a genuine love and passion for art and living, despite the one tragic event in her past. With others, she will great even though she doesn’t know with a warm smile and friendly hello, her eyes shining with the smile that could light up a world. She is playful and bubbly, though she knows when to tone down her childish happiness to console and comfort someone. Her moods are easily influenced by those of others, but in turn, her happiness seems to flow out to others in a gentle radiance, calming and easing their sorrows when they can’t seem to find a reason as to why. She is one of the most loyal, loving, and caring people one could ever encounter, a true angel’s blessing. On her own, she is mostly pensive and thoughtful, lost alone in her thoughts and daydreaming about paintings and days to come. She’s very odd in that she likes being around people because they make her feel safe and loved, yet at the same time, she will have days where she simply wants to be alone because its quieter. She’s never been known to say a harsh word to anyone without a very strong reason or cause. When she’s upset, though, she will rarely show it in any way other than the smile she bears on her lips never reaching her eyes.
Goals: To master Teishoku’s true potential and create the most beautiful pictures she can, to show both those that can and CANT see just how beautiful life is
Likes: Apple cider, autumn, misty rain, art, reading, colors, rainbows, singing, and cuddling with someone she loves are some of the many things Isabella enjoys.
Dislikes: Isabella’s dislikes range from simply her friends being sad to a lack of color, being cold, reminiscing sad memories, being yelled at, and finally silence.
Bad Habits: Drawing and painting when she should be paying attention to something else, and zoning off into deep trains of thought that end up seeming nowhere near connected to their starting point.
Fears: Isabella is deathly terrified of the dark, and, on a much lower level, spiders. The dark, though, is her worst fear; she hates not being able to see a thing, hates having the light taken away.
Other: She has a strong tendency to put people before herself, always wanting to make others happy first, even if it could make her unhappy, and a dangerous sense of trust—she’ll trust anyone any number of times, no matter how cruel they’ve been, until they’ve proven themselves far undeserving of her trust or someone convinces her otherwise.

History: Isabella was born in Nice, France on the spring solstice, the first child of Aidren and Maria Mercier, two still rather young and in love mages. Being a beautiful, magical tourist city, with long beaches and a mild climate, Nice was a wonderful place for Isabella to grow up. Her mother owned an art supply shop, and her father was a fisherman on the coast of this picturesque city, so though they didn’t live like royalty, her family lived quite well. Every day Aidren would come back from fishing with tales of his days, of fake sea monsters and pirates to entertain his young, dream-filled daughter, and past the age of one for her, his young son as well. These stories delighted her almost as much as her godfather’s creations.
Isabella’s godfather, Braeden de Luca, was an old friend from her parent’s days in the famous mage academy in Paris, France. He was their closest friend—the three of them inseparable, and thus the clear choice to be the godfather of their precious daughter. An artist and a caring man with a gentle smile and love of the magic he knew of, Braeden was like an older brother or loving cousin for the first six years of Isabella’s life, teaching her magic tricks and songs, acting as a baby sitter for she and her little brother whenever her parents needed it. He was both a part of her loving family and her sensei. As this young child, Isabella would often run around the city of Nice with Braeden trailing idly behind, and thus not watching her completely. Being a magical city, there were certainly dangers, but for the most part it was a safe haven for little Isabella to traipse around, even alone. She would wander through the streets and market, smiling and chatting happily with any passerby that would stop to have a conversation with the young five year old. She’d hold her little brother’s hand and wander around the city, collecting treasures of all sorts off of the beaches, or that shop owners would hand out to the trusting young girl they knew, and thrilling passerby with her ability to change the color of anything she wished.
From birth to age six, Isabella’s life was near perfect—never too dull, never too dangerous, never too lush so she knew hardships, but never so hard that she’d feel hopeless. However, reaching age six, there was a turn in her life. Aidren, one day, never returned from a fishing trip. It seemed he’d disappeared all together. A strange man had knocked on the door of her mother’s art shop that day, while Braeden was keeping Isabella and her brother occupied, teaching his young goddaughter how to finally use the gift he’d given her as a young child—a magical paintbrush, Teishoku. As the man and her mother had talked in hushed voices, Isabella had crept to the doorway between the front hall of the shop and the living room, watching with innocent eyes and childish curiosity. Braeden had been at her side the entire time, and then at her mother’s as the man had left her crying, telling her such things as “It’ll be alright, he’s strong, they’ll find him,” and “No, no, not
them…They won’t find him; he’s safe.” Confused and curious, Isabella’s inquiries were turned gently away, her mother left to herself while Braeden tended to the children. As the days wore on, and Aidren never returned, Isabella and her brother were led to believe that he’d gone off on a trip for a long while. Braeden assumed the role of father figure for the children, spinning them tales of dangerous escapades and eccentric, faraway lands that their father was traveling to and experiencing while he was gone. He did a marvelous job of taking care of Isabella and her brother while at the same time their mother, who seemed to waste away with each day.
After almost a full year of her husband’s disappearance, Maria herself passed on. It was one of the most miserable days of her life, and the funeral day was one of the rainiest days in Nice; the entire population of mages in the city attended. For weeks after, while her brother kept quiet as usual, Isabella lost her magical smile and happiness. She grew less and less talkative, more sullen and withdrawn. Seeing his goddaughter—now his full responsibility—in such a state saddened Braeden almost as much as the passing of his old friends had, and he sought, now, to make his two godchildren as happy as he could. To Isabella’s brother, he gave every toy, book, and comfort he could, and to Isabella, he gave the will to smile and move on with her life. He explained to her how much her little brother looked up to her, how if only she would smile and be happy again, her world and the worlds of those around her would be brighter. He increased his interests in getting Isabella to express herself through her art, teaching her how to use Teishoku’s power to its fullest, how to create “living” paintings and drawings to play with she and her brother while he was gone, even further how to create paintings that would fight for and defend her. It was around this time that Isabella began refusing to go around a single day without a ribbon tied into her hair or the special beret her father had given her on her head; they became her trademark. Slowly, Isabella regained her happiness, though she was slightly less talkative than she once was, and thus she learned to hide her unhappiness with a perfect façade that even Braeden had trouble seeing through it to her true feelings. It would take someone perfectly in tuned to the world around them, to the feelings of those around them, to be able to feel through her happiness to the sadness beneath.
Around the time Isabella turned age ten, Braeden took the children to more of Europe, moving around constantly to let them practice speaking the English he’d taught them, as well as other countries to learn further languages. It delighted her brother, always hungry for knowledge, and further lightened Isabella’s mood as she saw and experienced more things she could put into paintings. Her goal as they moved was to capture everything as accurately as she could, both as they appeared in reality and in her dreams, still keeping with the thought that perhaps one day her father would return—even though she knew deeper in her mind that he was gone forever as her mother was. She used her paintings, though, to show all those she met the wonders of the world they’d never been to, ecstatic to bring even mild happiness to the lives of others she didn’t know.
On Isabella’s sixteenth birthday, Braeden brought his beloved goddaughter and godson news of a famous academy for humans and creatures alike in Japan. It was the sort of adventure that they’d both dreamed of, and Isabella readily jumped at the chance. Being that he couldn’t go with them on his own, Braeden took an old plush doll he once had—a chibi replication of him Maria had made in their academy days as a joke—and placed a permanent spell on it to be almost exactly as he was. He instructed the plushy to watch over and guard the two, and handed it over to Isabella so it could be her companion and guardian. Setting out, then, with chibi Braeden on her shoulder and her brother at her side, Isabella traveled on to Hokkaido Academy, keeping record of all the things she encountered through her paintings. Now, arriving at Hokkaido, Isabella seeks to further her art and magical knowledge, while at the same time spreading her happiness and paintings to all others, showing her joy in the simplicity of life and spreading it on to others.
